Soft Tissue treatments and more

The type of treatment will depend on the type of problem you have. A full assessment is carried out during the first appointment in order to determine where the problem is stemming from and what techniques can be safely used to treat it.

Effective chiropractic treatments

Chiropractors are most commonly known for manipulation of the spine, which is sometimes called an 'adjustment'. This is often accompanied by an audible pop or click, which sounds much like the noise made when cracking your knuckles. This is not painful and the sound is due to the release of gases from the joint which happens as the result of pressure changing within the joint.

In cases where manipulation is unsuitable (i.e. the person is on warfarin or has certain medical conditions) gentle mobilisation and stretching of the joints may be more appropriate, or the use of an activator may be used. An activator is a small tool that manually delivers a precise and gentle impulse to the joint.

 Complete chiropractic care

As well as these core treatment techniques Katie has also undertaken post-graduate courses in Dry Needling, which is also known as 'Medical Acupuncture'. Although acupuncture needles are used the technique is different to Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and is used to treat muscular problems, in particular areas of the muscle called Trigger Points.

A trigger point is a taut band of skeletal muscle located within a larger muscle group and can often feel like a 'knot' in the muscle which is tender to the touch, and touching a trigger point may refer pain to other parts of the body. Research shows that the use of acupuncture needles on trigger points decreases muscle contraction, reduces chemical irritation, improves flexibility and decreases pain.
This can be helpful for a variety of problems, including but not limited to:

Shoulder pain
Hip pain
Tennis/Golfers elbow
Cervicogenic headaches
Sciatica
Piriformis syndrome
Chronic back pain
